UNWIND BEAUTY · NEW BOOK PREVIEW
What kind of book brings together endorsements from Lin Chi-ling, Jam Hsiao and Summer Lin? The answer lies in a clinical language for understanding the face that resonates across different fields.
Unwind Beauty draws on Dr. Mandy Lin's ten years of clinical observation in facial acupuncture, facial structure and tissue tension. Through fascia, bone, neural pathways, lymphatic flow, scars and the holistic perspective of Chinese medicine, it develops the clinical language of “unwinding.” The Chinese edition, 《養顏解纏》, and the English edition, Unwind Beauty, are scheduled for simultaneous release in November 2026.
What brings Lin Chi-ling, Jam Hsiao and Summer Lin to the same book?
When the endorsement list was announced, many readers first noticed the names: Lin Chi-ling, and Jam Hsiao with Summer Lin. To me, what makes this group meaningful is that they read a face from different perspectives.
People who work with cameras, lighting and proportions understand how a tiny change in contour affects an overall impression. People familiar with the stage know how expression, breathing and physical condition alter a person's presence.
In the clinic, I read another set of clues: how tissue tension travels, where support comes from and why a face gradually settles into its current pattern.
The same “tired look” may be described differently across these fields. On camera, the light may no longer catch the contours as it once did. In the body, the face may feel constantly effortful. During palpation, the clinician may notice changes in glide, support and the direction of tension. These observations describe the same person from different vantage points.
These endorsements speak to a way of understanding the relationship between the face and the body.
Why do endorsements across different fields matter for a clinical book?
Professional knowledge needs language that reaches beyond a single field. If fascia remains only an anatomical term, readers may struggle to connect it to their own face. A before-and-after photograph alone cannot explain the structure, direction and body relationships behind a change.
Unwind Beauty works toward a shared language. It starts with fascia, bone, neural pathways, lymphatic flow, scars and Chinese medicine, then returns to questions readers can recognize:
- Why do some expressions become increasingly effortful?
- Why do certain contours keep returning to an earlier pattern?
- Why is treating only the face sometimes insufficient to understand it?
A clinical book can travel further when people with different experiences recognize something they have observed but have not yet found a complete way to describe.
From The Beauty Bible to Unwind Beauty
The Beauty Bible brought Chinese medicine, facial acupuncture and contemporary knowledge of facial structure together to explore how we can understand and care for a face.
After a decade of clinical work, my questions grew deeper. Why is treating a nasolabial fold only at its visible location sometimes insufficient? Why look again at the neck, hyoid region and breathing after releasing the masseter? Why can expression continue along familiar effort patterns even after a contour has changed?
These questions led from a single facial line to fascia, bone, neural pathways, lymphatic flow, scars and expression patterns repeatedly recruited by emotion.
Lines, hollows, swelling and asymmetry can be understood as shapes left by persistent patterns of force. In the book's clinical language, muscles remember how to exert effort, fascia remembers the direction of pull, and the body repeatedly returns to familiar patterns.
What does “unwinding” mean?
Unwinding begins by identifying the direction in which tissue is being held, then deciding which layer and location to approach first.
It involves clinical observation, palpation, direction, force, sequence and the tissue's response in the moment. Areas carrying excessive load are given room to release, while areas that have stopped participating are invited back into the whole. The aim is greater softness, mobility and adaptability in the face and body.
The book brings together several clinical languages: fascial glide; bone and support; the organization of neural pathways; lymph and fluid; the pull left by scars; and Chinese medicine's understanding of meridians and whole-body conditions. They converge on the practitioner's ability to read the tissue and make appropriate decisions through the Dingyan Method.

Chinese and English editions: November 2026
Unwind Beauty extends this clinical language from the Chinese-speaking clinic into a broader professional conversation about facial acupuncture, fascia and bodywork.
It presents a clinical framework for understanding facial tension through fascia, bone, neural pathways, lymphatic flow, scars, Chinese medicine and whole-body relationships. Both editions are scheduled for simultaneous release in November 2026.
